Breast cancer as a serious health problem among women

KUMS Vice Chancellor of Public Health, Professor Ibrahim Shakiba: Today, breast cancer is recognized as one of the most serious health problems among women in all societies.

In an interview with the KUMS public relations, Professor Shakiba considered this type of cancer to be the most prevalent and the leading cause of death among women and maintained that if diagnosed in the early stages, treatment will be possible.

Pointing out that the World Health Organization has introduced the month of October (October 9 to November 9) as the global breast cancer awareness month, he asserted that sensitizing and awareness raising in the society, especially in women, regarding preventive measures and the importance of early diagnosis using different information and educational methods is one of the main goals of naming this month.

According to Professor Shakiba, it is possible to prevent this disease through a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, early diagnosis through monthly self-examination and clinical examination by a midwife and mammography can lead to mitigation of the disease and prevention of its severe complications.

Professor Shakiba stated that this month, educational and screening programs will be intensified in health centers and bases of the province for women aged 30 to 70. He added, “Hopefully, with the implementation of educational and screening programs, we will see a decline in the incidence of breast cancer and its mortality rates”.
